The Guatemalan Public Ministry announced on Monday that it had arrested lawyer Claudia González, a former member of the International Commission against Impunity (CICIG), in the middle of a search operation against former prosecutors in anti-corruption organizations.

"As part of the proceedings in the Illegal Criminal Prosecution case, the Internal Affairs Prosecutor's Office coordinated with the PNC (National Civil Police) the apprehension of Claudia González," the Public Ministry reported on the X social network, previously called Twitter.

The entity previously reported that it was carrying out raids on properties in different areas of the department of Guatemala, including the capital, Guatemala City, the Sputnik news agency reported.

According to local media, Judge Jimi Bremer ordered the arrest of González and Juan Francisco Sandoval, former head of the Special Prosecutor's Office against Impunity (FECI), for possible abuse of authority, as well as former FECI prosecutor Eva Sosa.

González is a lawyer for Sandoval, as well as for other prosecutors who have been charged by the authorities.

Sandoval, who lives in exile in the US, denounced on social networks that the authorities intimidated his parents with the raid.

"They are intimidating and intimidating my parents, elderly people who have no responsibility for the work I did in the MP," he said.
