Romania: Huge double explosion near Bucharest leaves at least one dead and 46 injured

The devastating explosions in the town of Crevedia, 27 kilometers from the capital, caused a fire in which around twenty fire vehicles had to intervene to put it out and evacuate the inhabitants within a radius of 700 meters.

At least one person died and 46 were injured, due to a double explosion at a gas plant in Romania, local authorities reported this Saturday.

 

"The incident occurred inside a liquefied gas plant, located near the Romanian capital, the city of Bucharest," the AFP news agency reported.

 

"The strong detonation caused at least one death and 46 injuries," the Romanian authorities said in an official statement.

"Among the injured, 26 belong to the fire brigade, which intervened in that gas plant in Crevedia, a commune in Dâmbovi?a county, Muntenia, north of the capital," the government said.

 

"At least eight of the wounded suffered very serious burns," sources close to the medical officials said.

 

"More than twenty firefighters intervened to put out the fire and evacuated the inhabitants within a radius of 700 meters," said the Inspection for emergency situations, in a statement.
