At least eight people, including an evangelical pastor, a gospel singer and businessmen, were arrested in Brazil accused of organizing and financing the mobilization of followers of former President Jair Bolsonaro who in January attacked the headquarters of the three powers to promote a coup d'état. against President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

 

The action was carried out by the Federal Police (PF) at dawn this Thursday, with 16 search warrants in the states of Santa Catarina, Bahia, Goiás, Paraiba, Paraná and Brasilia, authorized by Judge Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supremo Tribunal Federal (STF), the Supreme Court of Brazil.

 

The information was confirmed on social networks by the Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino.

 

The Federal Police reported in a statement that this is phase number 14 of Operation Lesa Patria, carried out by the STF to punish the perpetrators, organizers and ideologues of the Bolsonaro coup attempt on January 8, which with the assault on the headquarters of the powers sought the intervention of the Army to overthrow Lula.

 

"The targets of this phase are suspected of having fomented the violent movement called 'Festa da Selma', which was, in fact, a code name previously used to refer to invasions," the PF said in a statement.
